ASUB Orientation (ASUB = Association Sportive de l'Université de Bruxelles) was founded in 1966 and is one of the twenty-odd clubs affiliated to the ABSO (Belgian Orienteering Association).
We take part in the orienteering events which are listed in the calendar and take place throughout the year. We ourselves organise ten or so of these. Events are usually held on a Sunday and cover all types of orienteering: foot orienteering of various course lengths, RandOrienteering or orienteering walks, mountain bike orienteering, orienteering raids and trail orienteering.

|
Every year, the club organises a series of activities:
from April to September, introductory and training sessions suitable for all levels of skill take place on Friday evenings (start times from 6 to 7 p.m.) in the Forêt de Soignes and certain Brussels and Brabant parks. These offer courses for beginners as well as experienced orienteers.
during the week and throughout the year physical training sessions take place and special attention is given to the younger members.
the high point of the each season is a club trip to a multi-day summer international event (French 5 days, Scottish 6 days, Italy-Switzerland 6 days...).
several club training courses in Belgium and abroad are open to all members, with exercises suitable for all levels.
to keep you informed of all this, ASUB Nouvelles, the club's monthly magazine, provides information, reports, humorous items...

| Membership |
|
ASUB has two categories of member: 'leisure' and 'competition'.
'Leisure' members: these members take part in the RandOrienteering activities planned for each weekend and which involve walking without competing against one another; a competitor is not timed. Given this absence of intensive physical effort these members do not need to supply a medical certificate. The Association is seeking more and more to open orienteering to those who are not looking for athletic success but wish to enjoy walking in the woods and discovering the forest with the help of a map. You will see in the event details for the courses in the association's events calendar the reference 'circuits randonneurs-loisirs'. These are planned on the same basis as the classic competitive courses, with the course drawn on the map, but the participants are not timed. 'Leisure' members are full members and are insured in case of accident.
'Competitive' members: these compete in events against the clock, each in their age category. They must supply a medical certificate stating that they are fit for competitive orienteering.
Affiliation details:
| 1. Subscription (click here if you are making a payment from abroad) |
| 30 euros |
+ 15 euros medical certificate deposit * |
= 45 euros |
| 20 euros for a young person or student |
+ 15 euros medical certificate deposit* |
= 35 euros |
*This deposit is only required from 'competitive' members. 'Leisure' members are not required to provide a medical certificate and do not need to pay the deposit. However, if a 'leisure' member enters on any occasion for a race with timing, he or she will be automatically included in the 'competitive' category and will have to provide a certificate. The deposit will need to be paid until the certificate is supplied.
|
| 2. The medical certificate (only for 'competitive' members) |
On receipt by the club treasurer, the 15 euros deposits are added to the sum available for paying certain entry fees or meeting other cots (see Entering for events).
A medical certificate has to be provided to the Association every year. But it can be a copy of one presented for another comparable sport. This certificate is important for you because it allows you to check up on your health situation and to obtain insurance coverage of possible medical costs.
